My name is Andre and for the past 20 years I have been involved in grass roots community development. This has given me an opportunity to interact with people from a wide variety of backgrounds. For the past couple of years I’ve been reflecting on this journey whilst transitioning to consulting, teaching and writing on community development.
I am part of the Christian faith yet believe things are not as black and white as some would like to make out, I’m not sure if there’s 50, but there are shades of grey in our world. I try to operate off a set of universal principles such as; everyone is of inherent value and worth; people are ultimately good; hope is a universal driver for change; people have a right to be heard, understood, belong and find meaning in their community. In my understanding these values are congruent with what my faith has to offer the world. Yet these are often veiled.
So I sit on the boundary between what people perceive as faith and no faith and falteringly seek to speak into both worlds in a search for common ground.
